Porcelain Crowns

Do you have a tooth that needs to be strengthened or restored? Consult with your dentist about dental crowns, which are tooth-shaped caps placed over natural teeth.

Dental crowns can be used to protect weak teeth, restore teeth to their original size or strength, improve the appearance of damaged teeth or provide your dentist with a place to attach a bridge.

Why would you need porcelain crowns?
Porcelain crowns are a good option for any of the following:
  • Restoring severely worn or broken
  • Covering a tooth that has a large filling and very little remaining natural tooth structure
  • Protecting weak or decayed teeth
  • Providing your dentist with a place to attach a dental bridge to replace a missing tooth
Do you need porcelain crowns? Unsure about the difference between crowns and dental bonding? Christie Dental has dentist offices throughout Florida to help.

Metal-Free Fillings

In the past fixing cavities required a dentist filling your mouth with unsightly metal fillings. Fortunately, modern cosmetic dentistry has changed this. Your local Christie Dental dentist can treat your cavity with non-metal composite and porcelain fillings that look completely natural.

Composite fillings use white synthetic resins that are filled directly into the cavity. They a good option for small- to mid-size cavities.

Porcelain fillings are glass-like filling restorations that can be a much longer lasting and stronger choice than a resin filling, especially when the cavity is very large and much of the original tooth is compromised. They are more durable than composite plastic/resin fillings, but they often require at least two dentist visits. For single visit options, Christie Dental is proud to offer CEREC 3D porcelain restorations (see below) that can be done in a single visit. Christie Dental offers this option in our Ocala Central, Merritt Island 2 or Viera offices.

Dental Bonding

Christie Dental's team of dentists can rebuild your smile using a technique known as dental bonding, in which a tooth-color resin material is applied directly to the tooth. The resin, which is a plastic-like material, then hardens and appears to be a part of the natural tooth.

Why would you need dental bonding?
Dental bonding is a good option for any of the following:
  • Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
  • Closing spaces between teeth
  • Repairing decayed teeth
  • Improving the appearance of discolored teeth
Most dental bonding takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.

CEREC

What is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does the instrument work?
CEREC uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?
A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second visit has been eliminated. CEREC has two decades of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.
